about

Despite the fact that the sixth track of this album is named ‘Satán’, be aware that Saturnales is obviously not a satanic band. The triptych ‘Satur - Sàtyr - Satán’ just depicts the slow demonisation of old pagan entities (Saturnus, or sátyros like Pan) by the catholic church during medieval times. Hidors Malveis deals with the ugliness of modernity, and with this replacement of forests, nature-worshipping and pagan rites by cities, dungeons, towers, churches and christianity.
This album also deals with melancholy and memories of times that are now lost. That’s why I included a lot of backward-looking references in Hidors Malveis. The front cover shows the castle I used to see from my window when I lived in Cagnes-sur-Mer in 2010-2014. The other picture (in the CD version) was taken in 2004, when my brother ttomss and I had a Black Metal project and wanted to take some promo pictures in the forest nearby. The last three tracks comes from those glorious times : ‘Mélancholier jos Machecolie’ and ‘Satán’ were ambient interludes written by ttomss, and ‘Sol Victus’ was supposed to be an intro. It is actually the first piece of music I ever wrote. Now it’s an outro for my last album. The circle is complete, I can move forward now.
